Doug Walters
Wisden CricInfo staff - June 19, 2001

Wisden overview
Four disappointing tours of England, where lack of footwork cost him dear, reduced Doug Walters's record to the merely excellent, for in other climes his Test average was almost 58, and he was among the most eyecatching strokemakers of his generation. His Test career began with hundreds in consecutive Tests against England in 1965-66, and was punctuated by scores both huge (such as a double-century and century in a Sydney Test against West Indies) and fast (including two hundreds within sessions). Walters also bowled an energetic medium-pace, and enjoyed an outstanding allround match at Georgetown in March 1973. Droll, unflappable and unaffected, Walters became the favourite son of the habituals of Sydney's Hill, who would erect an ersatz "Doug Walters Stand" each year from which to acclaim him.
