Darren Maddy
Wisden CricInfo staff - June 20, 2001

Wisden overview
He may be keen as mustard and English as roast beef, but Maddy has struggled to bring much to the table at the highest level. England picked him for the one-day team in 1998 - and for his first Test a year later - despite a patchy record with Leicestershire, but his limited range of strokes proved a handicap. Compact at the crease, Maddy likes to shovel straight balls onto the legside and steals singles with his speed between the wickets. The most dangerous part of his wobbly seam-up is that it is underrated, while his fielding, either in the slips or the gully, can be spectacular. He belongs to the Graham Gooch school of fitness fanaticism. Lawrence Booth
