Test debuts: South Africa - F.J.Cook, R.A.Gleeson, C.F.W.Hime, J.Middleton, R.M.Poore, J.H.Sinclair, J.T.Willoughby; England - H.R.Bromley - Davenport, H.R.Butt, C.B.Fry, The Seventh Lord Hawke, T.W.Hayward, A.J.L.Hill, A.M.Miller, C.W.Wright, S.M.J.Woods (making his debut for England having previously played for Australia. The South Africans, without A. B. Tancred, Innes, Richards, and Rowe, were completely outplayed, the English team winning by 288 runs. The batsmen seemed quite helpless before the skilful bowling of Lohmann, whose analysis in the second innings was extraordinary.
