Theatre students bring drama to The Oval
Media Release - 7 March 2001

All the world's a stage and, to prove it, the Central School of Speech and Drama in London is to present a unique site specific performance at The Oval entitled "Night Watchman".

The Foster's Oval welcomes 70 students from Central and the Circus Space who, from 15-17 March 2001, will present their theatrical responses to and interpretations of this landmark.

The Central School has a site in close proximity to the Foster's Oval. Students, including post-graduate theatre makers, aerialists, jugglers, acrobats and contortionists, will collaborate on the piece that will be staged in different parts of the grounds and facilities. Although this is primarily an educational project, the show will be performed to an invited audience including local residents.

The Rt Hon John Major, President of Surrey County Cricket Club, stated: "I am delighted that Surrey County Cricket Club is able to offer the use of the Foster's Oval for such a unique local project."

Professor Gary Crossley, Principal of the Central School of Speech and Drama, added: "I am pleased that the Foster's Oval Cricket Ground is to host our Site Specific Project this year. The challenge for our students is to create new theatre in an unusual environment.

"The Foster's Oval (and its stands, hospitality boxes and perimeter walkways) offers a most exciting and evocative venue. The proximity of the ground to Central's Kennington site makes this a natural partnership. I look forward to a unique performance by tomorrow's theatre-makers at one of London's most distinctive landmarks."
