BCCSL - 7 March 2001

The president of the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka – Mr. Thilanga Sumathipala together with his Executive Committee is please to announce that it has received notification from the International cricket Council (ICC) that Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium has been approved as an International venue.

As such, the inaugural One day International match scheduled to be played on the 23rd March 2001 against England will go ahead as planned.

Attached for your reference is a copy of the official communication received from the ICC Cricket Operations Manager – Mr. Clive Hitchcock.

The Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium was inspected by the ICC Match Referee Mr. Cammie Smith on the 6th March 2001, where an exhibition match of 25 overs per side was played. His report together with his recommendation that the venue is approved for the international play was communicated to the ICC on the same day.

The Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium is the brainchild of BCCSL President - Thilanga Sumathipala, and realizes a dream and a vision of bringing international cricket to all four corners of our Island.
