Panama: League reaches halfway stage
8 March 2001

The Copa Panama First Division cricket league competition has reached the halfway stage, with Nawab CC holding a slender two point lead, due chiefly to playing one more match.

Arguably the star of the season so far has been Ibrahim Bhoola, who has amassed 450 runs in six matches, while Said Kara has smashed 400 runs in seven games, including 80 against Kachhalia (B). Chota Bhikhu has also shone, striking 380 runs in seven games. All matches are 25-over-per-side.

Panama had its version of an 'All Star' game on February 26, when a Panama Cricket Board XI played another team drawing players from all of Panama's 10 clubs.

Nilesh Bhakta stood out with the bat, scoring 95, while Ishwer Bhakta returned the impressive figures of 6-1-15-5.

The Panamanians will play 'internationals' of sorts when they travel to Bogota, Colombia, where they will play two matches against the Bogota Sports Club XI on May 5&6.
