BCCI announces cash awards to Laxman, Dravid and Harbhajan
15 March 2001

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced cash awards to India's highest run getter in Test cricket, VVS Laxman, vice-captain Rahul Dravid and off spinner Harbhajan Singh, the first Indian to achieve a hat trick of wickets in Test cricket.

In more than one way, the ongoing second Test Match between India and Australia at Kolkata has been the platform for the Indian cricketers to set records for themselves. Laxman, who broke the domain of former captain, Sunil Gavaskar's 18-year old record with a superb 281 individual runs, surpassing the earlier best of 236, would be awarded Rs.3 lakh, BCCI president AC Muthiah told PTI in Chennai on Thursday.

Dravid, who in the company of Laxman set the highest partnership for the fifth wicket would be richer by Rs.1.50 lakh. The 20-year-old Punjab bowler, Harbhajan would be awarded Rs.2 lakh for his achievement, Muthiah said. The awards would be presented to them at a function here on a later date.
