New Zealand Cricket - 16 March 2001

Jacob Oram will be released from his 12th man duties at the second National Bank Test versus Pakistan, to captain State Central Districts in its matches against the New Zealand Selection XI.

Oram will miss day five of the Test to captain the State Central Stags in a two-day game 19-20 March and a one-day game on 21 March against the Selection XI at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval, Lincoln University, 19-21 March.

The match is preparation for the State Central Stag's participation in the inaugural Champions Cup (One-Day Four Nations Tournament) at Perth Western Australia, from March 29 to April 04. Central Districts', as winners of the Shell Cup, earned the right to represent New Zealand at the tournament which will also be contested by Roofit Cricket Mumbai (India), Western Warriors (Australia), and the Kwa Zulu Natal Dolphins (South Africa).

Meanwhile Gary Stead has withdrawn from the Selection XI due to work commitments. A replacement player is yet to be confirmed but Chris Gaffaney will take over the captaincy.

James Franklin will play in the two-day match for the Selection XI but will be released from the one-day game so that he will be fresh for Wellington's three-day match against Pakistan at the Basin Reserve, 22-24 March.
