ZCU workshop on racial integration
ZCU - 19 March 2001

In keeping with its commitment to the racial intergration of Cricket throughout Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwe Cricket Union conducted a workshop on these issues on Saturday, 17 March 2001. The sole purpose of this workshop, which was attended by 45 key stakeholders, was to critically examine the opportunities for strengthening intergration within the sport. In preparation for this workshop, ZCU engaged an independent consultant to assess the opinions and experiences of a wide range of ZCU stakeholders.

ZCU's President, Mr Peter Chingoka, announced that at the conclusion of the workshop all ZCU stakeholders agreed to initiate an immediate and aggressive campaign to ensure fairer and more equitable representation and treatment of all races at all levels and functions within Zimbabwe cricket. A high-powered task force has been given a mandate by the ZCU Board of Control to produce a comprehensive plan to ensure "full and equitable intergration of Zimbabwean cricket in the shortest possible time with the least possible reduction in individual and team performance". The deadline for presentation of this task force's strategy is May 1 of this year.
