Dawn Six-wicket John bowls Customs to victory
24 March 2001

Islamabad pacer Stephen John captures six wickets for 32 runs to help Pakistan Customs carve out a 63-run victory over ADBP with a day to spare in the Patron's Trophy match at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad on Friday.

According to information made available, ADBP, who secured a 26-run first innings lead, were sent crashing out for 143 while chasing 207 for victory.

John, the left-arm who played a three-dayer against England at Lahore last year, finished the match with impressive figures of nine for 75.

John was well supported by part-timer Ali Naqvi who picked up three cheap wickets conceding 19 runs.

Earlier, Customs, resuming the third day at 172 for five and leading the bankers by 146 runs, were dismissed for a respectable 232 - thanks to a 148-ball 88 by Naveed Latif.

Naveed, who scored a triple century in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy, canned 12 boundaries and a six.

For the bankers, paceman Rao Iftikhar followed up his five for 53 with six for 82 for match figures of 11 for 135. But he had to face the anomaly of ending on the losing side. Customs earned nine points from the match.
