HBL and ABL out for low scores on first day of Patron’s Trophy last round
Mahmood Ahmad - 31 March 2001

The supremacy of Habib Bank, so far the leaders of the round robin league in Patron's Trophy Grade I competition, have fallen into jeopardy as the last round of the Trophy kicked off at various grounds in the Punjab province.

Asked to bat first by Wapda, HBL were skittered out for a paltry 126 in their first innings. However, they are still in contention to give a tough fight to the opposition after getting rid of two Wapda batsmen with just 46 on the board at the tea interval.

In another match of this round, Pakistan Customs made short work of a hapless Allied Bank (ABL) by getting them all out for 146 in 61.3 overs of hostile bowling.

Put into bat by Customs, Allied Bank found them in trouble from the word go, being reduced to 100 for 6 by the 50th over. Customs wicket keeper, Aamer Iqbal, was agile behind the stumps grabbing five catches to inflict real damage on ABL.

In the third match of this round, being played at the KRL Stadium, Rawalpindi, Pakistan International Airlines, fighting to avoid ouster in the next year's competition, put Khan Research Laboratories to bat first.

KRL, helped by a fine 63 by skipper, Mohammad Waseem, were 150 for three just after tea. Waseem, a former Test player, added 46 for the second wicket with Saeed Anwar Jnr (35) and then 92 for the third wicket with Saeed-bin-Nasir (34 not out) to lay a sound foundation for a big score.

In the rain-delayed fourth match of the round, Agricultural Bank were 73 for 2 after being put into bat by National Bank, so far the runner-ups in the teams standings.
