SunSmart League Final this weekend
Western Australia Cricket Association - 30 March 2001

Subiaco-Floreat and Wanneroo will reap the rewards of investing in their youth when clash for the WACA SunSmart League first-grade premiership at Richardson Park, South Perth, this weekend.

Both clubs have transformed success in junior competitions over the past decade to the top level. Wanneroo have stemmed the flow of quality players leaving the club and have retained a talented group of young players including Wes Robinson, Callum Thorp and Jason Parry.

The Roos, who are chasing their first two-day premiership, won their first A-grade title when they claimed the one-day BankWest Cup in February.

They are likely to be without inspirational skipper Mike Hussey due to Champions Cup commitments with the Western Warriors but the scales will be balanced if Subi-Floreat lose Murray Goodwin.

Both finalists boast a penetrating bowling attack with Subiaco-Floreat led by Western Warrior Gavin Swan (Wanneroo), along with Michael Clark and Sam Howman while Wanneroo will rely on Matt Mason, Thorp (46), Robinson (36) and Parry (35).

Mike Daube, chief executive officer of the Cancer Foundation of WA, will present the SunSmart League pennant to the victors at the end of the match.

Hours of play: 10.30am to 5.30pm. Umpires: Bruce Bennett and Andrew Craig.

Subiaco-Floreat: Gavin Swan (captain), David Bolton, Rob Campbell, Michael Clark, Steven Glew, Murray Goodwin*, Sam Howman, Kosta Kapinkoff, Brad Hart, Brett Jones, Scott Moody, Michael Simpson. Noel Knight (coach).

Wanneroo: Mike Hussey (captain)*, Joel Charles, David Hussey, Victoria Lawes, Andrew Lucas, Matthew Mason, Matthew Page, Jason Parry, Wes Robinson, Andrew Slattery, Callum Thorp. Ian Poulter and Keith Parry (coaches).
