Postcard: Justin Kemp - No clothes, so have to share
Justin Kemp - 8 May 2001

This has been an eventful trip to the West Indies, on and off the field, that's for sure! The cricket has been good and it's been great being on an SA team that has won a test series in the Caribbean and that is currently 3-1 up in the one-day series.

Off the field, and early in the tour, I went and cut a chunk of skin off my left heel while yachting in Barbados and now 6 weeks later it is only starting to show signs of full healing.

Then, I went and lost my entire clothing bag on the way from Antigua to Grenada and thus for the rest of my tour, if I don't find my bag I'll be loaning clothes from the rest of the guys.

Other than that, it's been really good touring around and we had a good time in Antigua over the international sailing week. We spent one evening at Jolly Harbour drinking with all the sailors who were participating in the race week. It was great seeing and chatting to some fellow South Africans and sharing Caribbean stories with them over a couple of beers.

Two nights later after the successful second one-dayer, we went down to English harbour where the racing yachts are based and once again we had an evening to remember.

We then headed for Grenada in the Windward Islands, which has some stunning and spectacular beaches. We stayed at the Grand Beach Resort, which like Jolly Beach is also located on a beautiful long white beach with crystal clear, warm water.

Our final night in Grenada was spent around the pool bar with some of the supporters from Robin Jackman's tour group and a few other fellas who are over to watch the cricket and it was good to chat with them. I also met Richard Snell who is also over with some of his work colleagues taking in some of the matches.

Grenada was a very important weekend and it was good to have the opportunity to play on Sunday and also to have won both of the matches. The Grenada double-header weekend was from a psychological point of view very important as it gave us the opportunity to go 3-1 up and it was always going to be very tiring and fatiguing.

It's been a fantastic experience being on a tour like this and even more so having had the opportunity to play 2 test matches and Sunday's one-dayer thus far.

Antigua is definitely a fisherman's paradise. Lance, Boeta and myself together with a local fisherman had at least 3 night's excellent fishing. There is a lot of sea-life and the fish were biting pretty well. The best catch by far was Boeta's who caught a 30-pound snoek off the beach. It's not the same snoek that we get back in SA but it has the same name.

There were obviously a lot of tales about the ones that got away but all the same it was good to get out of the hotel and relax a bit.

Until another time this is Justin Kemp signing off for CricInfo.
