Bulbeck's return hampered by abandoned match
Richard Marsh - 25 May 2001

Matt Bulbeck's programme to regain full fitness and a return to first team cricket suffered a bit of a setback last week when the Somerset Seconds match against Middlesex at Ealing was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

The plan was for Bulbeck, who looked impressive on his albeit limited return for the Seconds against Warwickshire the previous week, to bowl a normal number of overs and then undergo ten days of intensive training with fitness coach Andy Hurry with a view to being available for selection for the Leicestershire four-day game on May 30th. Now, because of the weather, those plans have had to be changed.

The young lef- arm seamer played for the Somerset Seconds in the on- day match at Bristol on Monday, and is expected to have played for Somerset Academy against Sussex at Taunton School yesterday and today.

Assuming Bulbeck has come through the matches without any setbacks it is quite possible that he could be available for selection for the CricInfo Championship match at Leicester on May 30th and the National league match against Kent at Tunbridge Wells on June 3rd.
