Dawn India lack co-ordination
31 May 2001

Sports Minister Col (Retd) S.K. Tressler claimed Wednesday that the Indian government and their cricket board lacked coordination which results in problems for other countries.

Speaking to journalists here the federal minister said that only last Friday the officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India had claimed they had no problems playing a match of the Asian Test Championship in Pakistan. "But now their government says that the BCCI has jumped the gun. This is total lack of coordination and affects relations with other countries."

President of the BCCI AC Muthiah and secretary Jayawant Lele, were in Lahore last week for a meeting of the Asian Cricket Council. In the meeting they produced a letter from their government allowing them to play Pakistan in multi-nation events. However, on their return home they were stunned by sports minister Uma Bharti who said that the BCCI should not take the liberty of making such announcements.
