Somerset still waiting on Ormond
Richard Walsh - 25 November 2001

Somerset are still waiting to hear whether or not Jimmy Ormond will be joining them for 2002.

The twenty four year old bowler left Leicestershire at the end of the 2001 season after seven years at Grace Road.

During his final season with the "Foxes" Jimmy Ormond appeared in the Cheltenham and Gloucester final at Lord's when his team were beaten by the Cidermen, and also made his Test match debut against the Aussies in the fifth test at The Oval.

Currently he is a member of the England tour party to England and is likely to play in the three match series which starts in early December. Also on the India tour are Somerset players Marcus Trescothick and Richard Johnson.

Speaking earlier today Somerset Chief Executive Peter Anderson told me, "We have heard nothing from Jimmy Ormond. It's disappointing that he hasn't had the courtesy to formally respond to our contract offer," and the chief concluded," but we haven't heard that he has signed for another county yet."
