Impressive statistics for early part of season
Canterbury Cricket Association - 27 November 2001

Several senior men's and women's cricketers have turned in outstanding statistics during the first two months of the cricket season.

The period of bad weather, which has resulted in one of the slowest starts on recent record to club cricket, has not stopped a string of top quality performances in the five rounds of two-day play to date.

Few players have performed better that Mark Hastings from Burnside West. Hastings has scored close to 200 runs at an average of 50 and taken 18 wickets at an average of 7.33, taking 8-35 against HSOB last weekend. Michael Papps has also been a standout performer with the bat and behind the stumps. He has scored 312 runs at 104 and made 24 dismissals behind the stumps and is well on the way to defending his Senior Player of the Year position from last year.

For St Albans, Darron Reekers (218) and Jarrod Englefield (199) have been in good form with the bat, and Aaron Redmond, last weekend, scored the top senior score of the season to date, with 121.

Kris Howes of Riccarton is the top wicket taker, with 20, including an impressive spell of 8-25 against LPW last weekend. Ryan Burson, Andrew Ellis from East Shirley and Hastings have both 18 wickets.

The women's competition is in one-day mode currently and it is no surprise that CLEAR White Fern players have been dominant to date. Nicola Payne from St Albans has scored the most run with 203, and Jess Little from East Shirley is also playing well with 144 runs. Payne 117 and Paula Flannery 102* are the players with centuries so far.

Sarah Burke of St Albans with nine wickets tops the list, while Kate Legg from ES is second with eight wickets. Erin Kelly has the only five-wicket bag with the ball.
