For the last four weeks Canterbury Cricket have been running a Wednesday afternoon MILO Have-A-Go Cricket programme at Hagley Park.

The CCA recognised that with changing lifestyles, the traditional time of Saturday morning no longer suits some people to be involved in sport. Therefore, the alternative of midweek was looked at and has proven to be a great success.

The MILO Have-A-Go programme is an introduction to the skills of cricket and is aimed and fun, enjoyment and participation. There have been 17 modules register in Canterbury and the Wednesday afternoon programme has proven to be one of the most popular.

Around 40 children and 15 keen parents attend the programme each week, which is overseen by CCA coach Nigel Marsh, but it is the parents who undertake most of the coaching. They have all been trained as MILO Have-A-Go coaches and although many have not had involvement in cricket coaching before, they are an integral part of the programme.

The programme is running for another two weeks before taking a break for the Christmas holidays and returning late in January for the remainder of the summer.
