Jaffer, Muzumdar flay Baroda
Staff Reporter - 30 November 2001

Perhaps half in anger at missing out on a shot at the national side, Mumbai opener Wasim Jaffer slaughtered the Baroda bowling on the first day of their Ranji Trophy league match at Vadodara.

Mumbai skipper Sameer Dighe won the toss but lost his own wicket early. Vinod Kambli also fell soon after, but there followed a 259-run partnership between Jaffer and Amol Muzumdar. Jaffer scored 178 of those runs, and his innings took only 180 balls and 239 minutes as the opener struck 24 fours and one six in his innings.

Muzumdar was slower, preferring to play second fiddle to an aggressive Jaffer. At the close of play, Mumbai were 372/5, with Muzumdar unbeaten on 121 off 248 balls and Sairaj Bahutule on 18. Muzumdar struck 13 boundaries in his knock.
