India women's cricketers set to tour South Africa in March 2002

On an invitation from the South African Women's Cricket Association, India have accepted and will tour our country in March of next year. This will be the first time that our national players will have the privilege to compete on an international level on home soil.

The tour will consist of One-Day Internationals and at least one Test match.

The South African team selected after a training camp early in November 2001 will be captained by Cindy Eksteen from Northerns.

The team is as follows:

JOSÉ BARNARD - WESTERN PROVINCE
CRI-ZELDA BRITS - NORTHERNS
HELEN DAVIES - WESTERN PROVINCE
KERRI LAING - GAUTENG
NOLUBABALO NDZUNZU - BORDER
LINDA OLIVIER - NORTHERNS
SHAFEEQA PILLAY - EASTERN PROVINCE
DENISE REID - WESTERN PROVINCE
DALEEN TERBLANCE - GAUTENG
YULANDI VAN DER MERWE - NORTHERNS
SUNÉ VAN ZYL - WESTERN PROVINCE
SUNETTE VILJOEN - NORTH WEST

It has also been agreed that the Interprovincial Tournament will be held in Cape Town in 2001. Western Province will be hosting the Tournament. All eleven provinces will participate and the hosting province will enter two sides.

To further increase the awareness of women's cricket in South AFrica a road show will take place in April 2002 for the development of women's cricket in the country. The services of Melani Jones (Australian National Cricketer) has been acquired. Melani has conducted many coaching clinics in South Africa, her most recent being in Alice in the Eastern Cape.
