Lillee to set up fast-bowling academy
Wisden CricInfo staff - November 2, 2001

Former Australian fast bowler Dennis Lillee is planning to establish an academy for the quicks of the future. Lillee, 52, is concerned about the lack of quality fast bowlers in his home state of Western Australia. "Nothing is happening in WA and, if we are brutally honest, hasn't been happening for some. The situation needs to be addressed," he said yesterday.

"Whether it's cyclical or not I don't know, but I've been critical of what I've seen over the last five or so years – to the stage where the WACA is taking steps to rectify a most serious problem.

"As a result, I am going to set up a fast-bowling academy, unique in Australian cricket, with the help of some renowned experts in their fields who I can't name at this early stage. There must be young fast bowlers out there, and we are going to do our best to stop them from being lost to the game."
