Bandaratilleke joins Sri Lanka squad
Wisden CricInfo staff - November 8, 2001

COLOMBO (Reuters)
Niroshan Bandaratilleke has joined fellow spin bowlers Muttiah Muralitharan and Thilan Samaraweera in the Sri Lanka squad for next week's opening Test against West Indies.

Bandaratilleke, a 26-year-old left-arm spinner, has played just four Tests since making his debut against New Zealand four years ago.

He captured nine wickets for 82 runs in his second Test, but has not played at the top level since the Asian Test Championship two years ago.

All three spinners named in the 15-man squad, chosen after the team's return from Sharjah on Tuesday night, are expected to play on what is traditionally a spinner-friendly pitch at the Galle International Stadium.

Three quicks were also named in the squad alongside fast bowler Chaminda Vaas, Sri Lanka's leading paceman.

Ruchira Perera, Charitha Buddhika and Nuwan Zoysa will all contend for the chance to partner Vaas in the new-ball attack.
