Sachin Tendulkar attended a hearing with match referee Mike Denness following allegations of ball tampering during the second Test between South Africa and India in Port Elizabeth. It is believed that five other players also appeared before Denness on charges of showing dissent and excessive appealing. Tendulkar was summoned after television broadcasts of the third day's play on Sunday showed the former Indian captain allegedly using his fingernails to interfere with the seam of the ball. Denness requested videotaped copies of the incident from television producers. The matter was not reported by either umpire on the field. "After having played international cricket for 12 years, I do know what is right and what is wrong," Tendulkar told the Telegraph newspaper in India. The players all met with Denness before the start of the fourth day's play but were expected to resume discussions with him after the close. No announcement is expected from Denness until Tuesday.

Sourav Ganguly is charged with failing to control his players. Agency reports indicate the other four Indian players are Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, Shiv Sunder Das and Deep Dasgupta.
