Chandana recalled to Sri Lanka squad
Wisden CricInfo staff - November 19, 2001

Sri Lanka have recalled leg-spinner Upal Chandana for the second Test against West Indies at Kandy which starts on Wednesday.

Chandana, 29, replaces Ruchira Perera in the 15-man squad, giving the Sri Lankans four frontline spinners to chose from. Chandana played the last of his five Tests against South Africa in 2000.

Chandana is unlikely to make the final 11 with left-arm spinner Niroshan Bandaratilleke favourite to retain his place. Sri Lanka's captain Sanath Jayasuriya hinted that Bandaratilleke did enough in Galle to retain his place, despite being criticised for his performance in West Indies' first innings where he took 0 for 76. "He bowled much better in the second innings," said Jayasuriya. "He deserves a decent chance and I hope he plays in Kandy."

Sri Lanka (from): Sanath Jayasuriya (capt), Marvan Atapattu, Kumar Sangakkara (wk), Mahela Jayawardene, Russel Arnold, Hashan Tillekeratne, Thilan Samaraweera, Chaminda Vaas, Niroshan Bandaratilleke, Muttiah Muralithathan, Charitha Buddika, Nuwan Zoysa, Suresh Perera, Michael Vandort, Upul Chandana.
