Chief Executive Peter Anderson quickly put paid to any rumours there might have been that Somerset were interested in signing England star bowler Darren Gough, who is unsettled at Yorkshire.

Speaking this morning Mr Anderson told me, "With Gough living in the home counties it is likely that he will turn to Middlesex, Essex or Surrey."

The Chief continued, "Whilst we are always interested in any quality players who become available you have to ask yourself is it worth it when the likelihood is that we would only see him for one Championship match and two National League matches."
