ICC targets former players for top management position
ICC Media Release - 13 November 2001

World cricket's governing body is looking to prominent former players and match officials to fill the newly created, high profile position of General Manager – Cricket.

The senior management post will include responsibility for all matters related to the playing of the game, including relationships with players, on field behaviour, playing conditions and the use of technology.

"The ICC is carrying out major changes to improve the way the international game is managed. It now needs an outstanding individual to drive that commitment forward and act as the liaison point between the ICC, member countries, the players and the players' representatives," explained Chief Executive Officer Malcolm Speed.

The successful candidate sought by the ICC will be a former player, umpire or referee with a proven management record to support detailed knowledge and extensive experience of the international game.

One of the first tasks awaiting the appointee will be the introduction of the new panels of ICC match referees and umpires. Both are due to come into force from the beginning of April next year.

"This is a challenging new position for an individual of high standing and proven calibre. Cricket issues are obviously at the very core of ICC priorities and this appointment recognises the need to add senior management skills in this area," added Malcolm Speed.

The successful candidate will be based at the ICC head office at Lord's Cricket Ground and report to Chief Executive Officer Malcolm Speed. Full details of the job specification can be found in the Recruitment section of the ICC web site at www.icc.cricket.org. Closing date for applications is Friday 7th December.
