Dawn Pakistan stars to raise funds
18 November 2001

Three cricket stalwarts captain Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram and opener Saeed Anwar will lead a fund raising campaign for the Afghan refugees.

Speaking to journalists at the Gaddafi Stadium on Saturday, the cricketers vowed for a vigorous campaign for the Afghan muslims and appealed to all the countrymen to take part in it.

They said that special counters would be set up at all the cities with the collaboration of chief nazims to receive donations. They also appealed to the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman and the sports legends of other games like Jahangir Khan to join hands with them for this noble cause.

Waqar said that the entire Pakistan cricket team would visit some cities to collect the funds.

Saeed said that Inzamam-ul-Haq had paid Rs 1,00,000 while Azhar Mahmood donated $ 1,000. The other members of the team would also make contribution.

Wasim said some matches in small cities might be held to raise funds.

The donors could donate hard cash, clothes and all necessary commodities, they said.
