Knee injury forces Shayne O'Connor out of Test series
New Zealand Cricket - 19 November 2001

CLEAR Black Cap left-arm swing bowler Shayne O'Connor will be returning to New Zealand tomorrow.

O'Connor injured the patella tendon in his right knee while bowling in the first Test against Australia in Brisbane.

CLEAR Black Caps Manager Jeff Crowe says O'Connor's knee has improved, but that it still isn't up to the demands that would have been placed on it during the second Test.

"Shayne's knee is on the mend and he has been able to bowl short spells in the nets at about eighty percent.

"However our medical team says that what the knee needs to fully recuperate is rest and it's obviously not likely to get that while he's playing Test match cricket," he said.

No decision has been made yet as to whether a replacement player will be required.
