Bangladesh names team for NZ tour
Lynn McConnell - 22 November 2001

Bangladesh have named their side for their National Bank tour of New Zealand for two first-class and two Test matches.

The side will be led by wicket-keeper Khaled Mashud who has played all but one of Bangladesh's seven Test matches.

The Bangladeshis have lost six and drawn one of their matches since being included on the list of Test-playing nations.

They will be playing a New Zealand Districts selection in Wanganui on December 7-9 and Auckland from December 12-15.

The first Test in Hamilton starts on December 18 and the second Test at the Basin Reserve in Wellington on Boxing Day.

One of the key players in the side is batsman Aminul Islam, the first Bangladeshi to score a Test century when scoring 145 against India in Bangladesh's inaugural Test match.

A more experienced player is Habibul Bashar, 29, who has a Test batting average of 39.66 and will be a key player if Bangladesh are to seriously trouble New Zealand with high-scoring in the Test series. He's scored four Test half centuries in his five Test matches.

Mohammad Ashraful comes with the record of being the youngest batsman to score a Test century, a milestone he achieved when aged 17 years 63 days and on his Test debut.

Other teenagers in the side are batsman Tushar Imran (18) and medium-fast bowlers Mohammad Sharif and Mashrafe Mortaza.

The full team is: Khaled Mashud (captain), Habibul Bashar (vice-captain), Aminul Islam, Javed Omar, Mohammad Ashraful, Al Sahariar, Enamul Haque, Hasibul Hossain, Manjural Islam, Mohammad Sharif, Khaled Mahmud, Fahim Muntasir, Tushar Imran, Mashrafe Mortaza, Sanwar Hossain.
