Hampshire win annual quiz contest against the Saints.
Vic Isaacs - 22 November 2001

It is not all fitness and training that occupies Hampshire's cricketers during the winter months. Many are abroad in Australia and South Africa, but those that remain take up jobs either coaching at the Hampshire Academy or working for Companies with an eye at the end of their playing days.

However, Hampshire players continue to represent the club in a number of ways, and one of these is the annual Hampshire CCC v Southampton FC Question of Sport quiz held at The Mountbatten School, Romsey.

This year Will Kendall captained the succesful Hampshire side which included Laurence Prittipaul, Giles White and Director of Cricket Tim Tremlett. A good crowd of pupils, parents and teachers were kept entertained with the banter between the two sides. Saints captain Matt LeTissier, a veteran of these events was particularly sparking.

After a closely fought contest, Hampshire ran out winners by 59-52, to take a 9-6 lead in the 15 year old contest.

After the quiz the Hampshire team was presented with the winners plaque by the headmistress Mrs. Morphew.

Following the quiz the Head of Sport at Mountbatten School Mr. Peter Faulkner who organised the event then opened the second half of the evening introducing the auctioning of some 60 items donated to the School by various sporting organisations world wide. Football shirts from Spain, Germany, Italy and UK raised good bids, with the top bid for an autographed Republic of Ireland shirt raising £185. Tennis and athletic items, rugby shirts and autographed programmes There were a couple of cricket items donated by Hampshire including an autographed bat.

The school runs this event annually, and would welcome donations of any sports related item, contact Vic Isaacs at vic@cricinfo.com.
