Alf Gover dies at 93
Wisden CricInfo staff - October 9, 2001

LONDON (Reuters)
Former England and Surrey fast bowler Alf Gover has died aged 93.

Gover was one of only two fast bowlers to take 200 wickets in successive English seasons, achieving the feat in 1936 and 1937.

He played in four Tests, making his debut at Old Trafford in 1936 against India and his last appearance against the same opponents at The Oval 10 years later.

Gover took 1555 first-class wickets at 23.63 apiece. After retiring, he switched to journalism before running an indoor cricket school.

He was the oldest surviving Test cricketer.

A tribute by Steven Lynch, Wisden.com's database director, follows shortly.
