The England and Wales Cricket Board chairman Lord MacLaurin has insisted that there is no question of the tour of India proceeding if there are any doubts about the safety of the players. "Our players will not be risked. You can be very sure that our players' safety is absolutely paramount," MacLaurin told the BBC. "If there is any chance they can come into any harm, the tour will not go on." His comments came after England captain Nasser Hussain made it clear that any decision would have to involve the players and not be left to the administrators. There were also reports in newspapers at the weekend which indicated that there were growing concerns among the England players about the wisdom of going ahead with the trip. "Nasser's view about it and my view about it are the same," explained MacLaurin. "He does not want to go to India if there is any threat to the players. Our players are our prime asset and we will look after them to the very best of our ability. They will talk to us. We have a very good association with them. "I don't foresee any situation coming where the players and the board will have any difference," he added. Maclaurin will discuss the situation with his Indian counterpart, Jagmohan Dalmiya, during the International Cricket Conference in Kuala Lumpar later this week.
