New South Wales and Australian legspinner Stuart MacGill has been fined $750 for crude behaviour during an interstate match.

MacGill was reported by umpire David Brandon following his reaction to having an lbw appeal turned down in the interstate match between New South Wales and Tasmania.

"The charges relate to showing dissent and crude and abusive behaviour," a New South Wales spokesman said in a statement. "Code of behaviour commissioner Terry Buddin fined MacGill ($375) for each offence. A charge of unbecoming behaviour was dismissed."

MacGill, 30, took 1 for 140 from 33 overs in Tasmania's first-innings total of 504.

He has taken 75 wickets in 16 Tests at an average of 25.02, but his international appearances have been limited by the presence of fellow legspinner Shane Warne, Australia's most successful bowler with 407 victims in 92 Tests.

MacGill was also involved in a clash with West Indies 12th man Ramnaresh Sarwan during the third Test at Adelaide last December.

Sarwan was almost knocked over when MacGill charged past him with his bat raised near the Adelaide Oval players' entrance.

MacGill was furious after being given out caught behind from a delivery that appeared to hit his helmet.

Match referee Alan Smith accepted MacGill's explanation that the collision was unintentional, but warned him not to do it again.
