Chanderpaul out but Lara cleared
Wisden CricInfo staff - October 20, 2001

Shivnarine Chanderpaul will miss the tour to Sri Lanka after sustaining a back injury during a practice game at Sabina Park. Left-hander Chanderpaul had been cleared to tour only last Friday but was forced to retire hurt while batting in a practice game on Sunday when the back pains became too intense. He had to leave the field for medical treatment and after consultation with doctors on Monday evening the decision was made to replace him with Wavell Hinds.

But West Indies were heartened by the news that Brian Lara is fit enough to travel with the rest of the squad, after fears about the hamstring injury which kept him out of recent tours to Kenya and Zimbabwe.

"I'm feeling fine," said Lara. "I worked out with the team and everything went OK. I didn't feel any pain or anything."
