Vettori hit by ankle injury
Wisden CricInfo staff - October 21, 2001

CANBERRA (Reuters)
New Zealand left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori suffered an ankle injury while fielding in a tour match and was taken from the field on a stretcher.

Vettori was fielding off his own bowling on the first day's play in the three-day match against an Australian Capital Territory Invitational XI at Canberra's Manuka Oval.

A New Zealand spokesman said Vettori was resting at the team's hotel with his ankle packed in ice and was optimistic he would recover in time for the first Test of the three-match series against Australia, which starts in Brisbane on November 8.

"The doctor talked to the consultant," said the spokesman, "and hesaid there was no major fracture but they just want to double check it with the radiologist."
