Deep Dasgupta
Wisden CricInfo staff - October 3, 2001

Wisden overview
A wicketkeeper and Test opener, Deep Dasgupta is almost the allrounder India needs. His stickiness at the top of the order came through when required most - in bouncy South Africa, where he saved a Test at Port Elizabeth. In his next Test, against England at Mohali, he toiled unflappably for his maiden century. But every day in international cricket, particularly on turning pitches keeping to Harbhajan Singh and Anil Kumble, revealed new cracks in his keeping technique. He was booted out of the one-day team in the home series against England in early 2002, and then failed to clinch his place ontour to England later that year. Yet, with improvement, Dasgupta could evolve into a priceless commodity. He likes to bat for long periods and nothing flusters him. It comes as no surprise then, that his heap of runs in domestic cricket is steadily growing taller. Dasgupta is also member of a unique club: international cricketers with women coaches.
