Cairns, Nash and Vettori to go to Oz
Wisden CricInfo staff - October 5, 2001

WELLINGTON (Reuters)
Allrounders Chris Cairns and Dion Nash and left-arm spin bowler Daniel Vettori have been named in the squad for New Zealand's three-Test tour of Australia in November.

Cairns has been out of international cricket for almost a year after surgery on an injured knee, while Nash and Vettori have also missed a year of Test cricket with back problems.

Nash and Vettori returned to one-day cricket in a triangular series in Sri Lanka in July.

"To compete with Australia, New Zealand need to field its best players and these three offer a level of experience, maturity and talent which is difficult to match," chairman of selectors Sir Richard Hadlee said.

Uncapped batsman Lou Vincent, who entered the one-day international arena last summer, has also been named in the squad.

Hadlee said some fitness issues remained with Nash and Cairns, with Cairns to miss the first match of the tour, which begins on October 16 in Brisbane against the Queensland Second XI.

Full squad Stephen Fleming (capt), Nathan Astle, Matthew Bell, Cairns, Chris Martin, Craig McMillan, Nash, Shayne O'Connor, Adam Parore (wk), Mark Richardson, Mathew Sinclair, Glen Sulzberger, Daryl Tuffey, Vettori, Lou Vincent.
