• Burge's first hundred (181 at The Oval in 1961) didn't come until his 21st Test. • All four of his Test hundreds came against England, but his average against them (38.03) was virtually identical to his career average (38.17). In England he passed 50 only three times in 22 innings, two of which were over 150 - that 181 and the more famous 160.

• In his whole Test career, he was out only three times between 70 and 100.

• He was bowled in exactly a quarter of his Test innings.

• He scored 124* in his only one-day innings (for Queensland).

• He was the first Australian to become an ICC match referee, and was the first referee from anywhere in a Test involving England (Phil Tufnell's match at Christchurch, 1991-92).
