10 October 2001

Richard Pybus has turned his back on Pakistan and will not be returning to Pakistan to coach the national cricket team citing uncertain situation prevailing in this region.

A Pakistan Cricket Board spokesman said Tuesday that the England-born South African Pybus had intimated the PCB about his decision. Pybus who was hired for the home series against New Zealand, but the Sept 11 terrorist attack on Washington and New York forced cancellation of the tour and the South African left Pakistan in a hurry due to the security reason.

BBC sport online adds: Pybus' decision not to make the journey has left the PCB hurriedly looking around for a temporary replacement. "At the moment, the whole situation in Pakistan is much bigger than cricket and I will be very surprised if Sharjah goes ahead," Pybus told BBC Sport Online. Pakistan have had nine coaches over the past four years, with Pybus working with the team on three separate occasions.
