Tight Newlands security for SA-Kenya clash
Arthur Turner - 18 October 2001

Western Province Cricket CEO, Arthur Turner, today announced tight security measures for Monday's One Day International match between South Africa and Kenya at Newlands. (starting time 14H30)

"From now on we treat every match as a dress rehearsal for the opening ceremony for the ICC 2003 World Cup" Turner said. "As usual we will treat any security breach in a serious light" Turner added. "Road commuters are reminded that Campgound Road will be closed between Mariendahl Road and Kelvin Grove Club from 12 noon on Monday"

The Kenyans, who have qualified for the 2003 World Cup, arrive in the City late this afternoon. They are scheduled to practise at Newlands on Friday at 10H00 and again on Sunday at 14H00. South Africa, who play India in East London on Friday, arrive in the City late on Saturday afternoon. They will practice at Newlands on Sunday at 10H00. "The general public are welcome to come and observe these practise sessions." Turner said. "Sunday is an ideal opportunity for families to come and watch these stars practise and in recent years these sessions have attracted several thousand people" Turner added. The Kenyans play a SA Tertiary X1 at UWC on Saturday. (Match starts at 10H00).

There are plenty of tickets available for the match, which are available from any Computicket outlet on the days leading up to the Match and from the gates on Monday. Prices for adults are: Seating R 50 and R 25 for standing room. Under 14 Scholars tickets (entrance only) are on sale for R15. The first 8000 spectators through the turnstiles will receive a free UCB Summer Series Tee-shirt. Gates open at 12H30 on Monday afternoon.
