Alistair Brown awarded 2002 Benefit by Surrey
Media Release - 22 October 2001

Surrey County Cricket Club is delighted to announce that Alistair Brown will be the club's beneficiary in 2002. Alistair made his county debut in 1992 and was awarded his county cap in 1994.

Alistair Brown is a name to strike fear into any opposing bowler. Since making his debut for Surrey in 1992, he announced himself to the cricket world with three of the fastest hundreds of the season (71, 78 and 79 balls). He made his international debut versus India at the Oval in 1996 and was man of the match with his debut hundred in his third one-day international at Old Trafford.

In 1997 he was a member of the England team to Sharjah where they won the Champions trophy (from Pakistan, India and the West Indies). In 1998 he scored the fastest 50 in the fifteen year history of the Texaco Trophy and the second fastest ever for England versus South Africa at Headingley in 31 balls.

Amongst his other achievements are the only ever Sunday League double hundred, scoring 203 off just 119 balls, winner of the Walter Lawrence Trophy for the fastest first class hundred of the 1998 season (off 71 balls) and almost 10,000 first-class runs at a very impressive average of 44.5 (highest average of any player yet to play Test cricket). Alistair has been Surrey's batsman of the season for the last five years this year scoring seven centuries.

The most exciting batsman of his day, he has scored 27 first class hundreds, 15 one-day hundreds, over 7,000 one day runs and is one of only seven players to score over 100 sixes in the Sunday League currently topping the list of current players with 115 sixes. His highest scores of 295* (first class), 203 (one-day) and 118 (one-day international) mark him out as a truly high-class player.

Paul Sheldon, Surrey's Chief Executive commented, "Alistair has shown tremendous loyalty and service to both England and Surrey County Cricket Club over the past decade and we all wish him a very successful benefit year."

Alistair Brown added; "Playing for Surrey throughout my career has been a fantastic privilege. I have been lucky enough to play with some great players and be part of the huge success the Club has achieved over the last five years. I hope that I can continue to contribute both on and off the pitch in years to come."
