Paul Wiseman called in to CLEAR Black Caps
New Zealand Cricket - 24 October 2001

Paul Wiseman has been called into the CLEAR Black Caps as cover for the injured Daniel Vettori.

Wiseman will join the CLEAR Black Caps in Brisbane tomorrow for the third warm-up match of their tour. The three-day match against a Queensland Cricket Association (QCA) President's XI starts on Friday.

Vettori returns to New Zealand tomorrow where he will undergo further assessment of his ankle injury and begin extensive therapy which it is hoped will see him available for the final of the three Tests against Australia.

Chairman of selectors, Sir Richard Hadlee, said Wiseman joins the team ahead of the second spin-bowler on standby, Brooke Walker.

"Paul Wiseman has played Test cricket and that experience counted heavily in his favour. Paul has also shown, in the past, that he is capable of taking wickets at this level. His inclusion in the squad will, no doubt, create competition with Glen Sulzberger for a Test place," Hadlee said.

Vettori arrives into Christchurch International Airport tomorrow on NZ202 at 3.55pm.

Wiseman departs for Brisbane from Christchurch International Airport tomorrow on NZ210 at 7.30am.
