Lord Kingsdown appointed new Kent Chairman
Media Release - 25 October 2001

Kent County Cricket Club today announced that its President for 2002 will be the Rt Hon Lord Kingsdown, KG.

Lord Kingsdown was Chairman of the National Westminster Bank from 1977 to 1983 and Governor of the Bank of England from 1983 to 1993. He has been Lord Lieutenant of the county since 1983, was made a peer in 1993 and a Knight of the Garter in 1994.

He has been interested in cricket all his life and maintains a ground for club games at his house, Torry Hill, near Sittingbourne. He played for various amateur clubs earlier in life and is now Chief of the Band of Brothers. Lord Kingsdown served as a Trustee of the Club from 1973 until the Club's incorporation in 1999 and remains a Trustee of the Club's Benevolent Fund. He has been a member of the Kent CCC all his life and last year received the honour of Honorary Life Membership.

Commenting on Lord Kingsdown's appointment, Kent's President for 2001, Derek Ufton, said: "Everyone at the Club is delighted that Lord Kingsdown has agreed to be Kent's President in 2002. He has a long-standing interest in cricket and has, of course, made a life-long contribution to Kent through his various roles in the public life of the county."
