Charl Langeveldt
Wisden CricInfo staff - September 6, 2001

Wisden overview
Broad shoulders and a powerful build never did result in fearsome pace forCharl Langeveldt. But who needs pace when you can make the ball swing both late and far? The latest in a proud line of international cricketers from Boland's Cape Coloured community, Langeveldt followed Omar Henry (currently his provincial coach), Roger Telemachus and Justin Ontong into the national squad. Hopes of a career as an allrounder were put on hold by a series of dramatic bowling returns, none more eye-catching than his 5 for 7 for South Africa A against Bangladesh. He does, though, have a working knowledge of the willow. Quick-witted and certainly not shy, Langeveldt sensibly maintained a career outside the game as a prison warden, but he has also organised extended leave of absence in order to concentrate on his cricket full-time. He spent the 2001 off-season remodelling his action to become more chest-on, and "make the ball swing even later". It worked. Neil Manthorp
