Sri Lanka v West Indies 2000-01
Wisden CricInfo staff - September 10, 2001

At Gymkhana, Nairobi, October 4. Sri Lanka won by 108 runs. Toss: West Indies. International debuts: K. C. B. Jeremy, M. N. Samuels.
West Indies suffered the most humbling defeat of the three "qualifying finals". After the travails of their England tour, here at least they could point to an inexperienced side. Four up-and-coming batsmen had been sent to the Australian Academy instead, and Adams had injured his rib. Stand-in captain Campbell's enjoyment of the post must have lasted about as long as the opening spells of McLean and Dillon, who claimed two wickets in the fifth over to leave Sri Lanka ten for two. From there, Gunawardene and Jayawardene revelled in some hapless fielding and support bowling to add 160. Gunawardene, a bulky 23-year-old left-hander, was dropped twice and caught off a no-ball on his way to 132, his first international century. The West Indians soon abandoned hope when Lara was caught behind off Zoysa, who snapped up three top-order wickets. Muralitharan's ten overs cost just nine runs.
Man of the Match: D. A. Gunawardene.
