Worcestershire clinched promotion to Division One with a 96-run win over struggling Essex. In a match reduced to 30 overs a side, Worcester's batsmen scored at more than five an over, leaving Essex the revised target of 194. The major contributions came from Phil Weston (68), Graeme Hick (46) and Anurag Singh, with a rapid 21 off 24 balls. Essex never looked like getting close, and their top score was Richard Clinton's 26. All the Worcestershire bowlers chipped in, with Matthew Rawnsley (3 for 28) the pick of the bunch.

James Hamblin was the star of the show for Hampshire, taking 3 for 23 and then smashing 60 runs off 42 balls at the top of the innings to set up their seven-wicket victory over Sussex. He was helped by Neil Johnson with 41 off 37 balls, as Hampshire easily reached their target of 143, having earlier bowled Sussex out in 37 overs.

Glamorgan showed why they had secured the Division Two title as they beat Middlesex by 40 runs. The star performer was Robert Croft with an unbeaten 114 off 111 balls, including 10 fours and three sixes. He was given good support by Steve James, who made 93 off only 94 balls as Glamorgan piled up 272 for 4. Middlesex started their chase strongly with good performances from Simon Cook (50), John Maunders (49), and Owais Shah (34) at the top of the order. But thereafter the innings fell away and Middlesex could never keep up with the mounting run-rate required.

Derbyshire finished an unhappy season with a six-wicket win over Lancashire in a match reduced to 25 overs a side by rain. Lancashire made 159 for 5, with Timothy Roberts (55) and Joe Scuderi (50*) the main run-getters. Derbyshire lost Steve Stubbings with only 9 on the board, but Michael Di Venuto (56) and Steven Selwood (33) knocked off most of the target without much trouble.
