Lara steps down
Wisden CricInfo staff - September 21, 2001

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (Reuters)
West Indies leg-spinner Dinanath Ramnarine has been named captain of Trinidad and Tobago for next month's limited overs tournament in Jamaica after Brian Lara declined the job, officials said.

Selection chairman Rangy Nanan announced the 26-year-old Ramnarine's appointment, and said Test opener Daren Ganga would be vice captain. Nanan said Lara had turned down the captaincy, saying he wanted to give a younger player a chance.

The team for the limited overs series will be announced on Sunday and they will play friendly matches against Antigua on September 27 and 28 before leaving for Kingston on September 30.
