Harrison wins TMS Young Cricketer of the Year Award
ECB Media Release - 1 September 2001

Adam Harrison, an opening bowler from Glamorgan, has won the Test Match Special Young Cricketer of the Year Award. The award, which was judged by a panel of ECB National Coaches, was presented to the 15-year-old at the Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy Final at Lord's on Saturday 1 September.

Harrison, whose brother David played for England Under-19s and is on the staff at Glamorgam CCC, opened the bowling for England Under-15s this summer, playing against Denmark Under-17s and Ireland Under-17s. A right-arm medium fast bowler, he is also a middle-order right-handed batsman.

Paul Farbrace, England Under-15 team coach, said: "He is an outstanding prospect who has the ability to go as far in the game as he wants. He bowls at a lively medium-fast pace, swings the ball away from the batsman and this season took a dozen wickets at about two runs an over for England Under-15s.

"He has worked very hard with his bowling coach, Tom Cartwright, and is developing well. At the moment he is predominantly a bowler who bats, but there is no reason why he cannot develop into a high-quality all-rounder in the future."

The Test Match Special Young Cricketer of the Year Award was introduced last summer as part of the ECB's five-year broadcast agreement with BBC Radio. The 2000 winner was Samit Patel from Nottinghamshire.
