Dawn PCB signs Rs 11 million sponsorship deal
5 September 2001

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Tuesday signed a Rs 11 million title sponsorship deal with Pakistan State Oil (PSO) for the forthcoming home series against New Zealand.

The logo and mascot was also unveiled in a simple but impressive ceremony.

PCB official Zahid Bashir said he would be able to generate Rs 30 million for the board from the coming series.

Tickets for the Test matches have been sold in cooperate sectors at 50 percent of their face value. To attract spectators to the venues on the last day of each of the three Tests there would be a raffle draw.

Besides cash awards worth $10,800 will be up for grabs during the three Tests and as many one-day internationals.

The Test series winner will get $4000 while the losing side will earn $2000. While there will be no Man-of-the-Match awards, the Man-of-the- Series will pocket $1000.

For the one-day series the matches of which will be played on Sept 19 (Karachi), Sept 22 (Lahore) and Sept 25 (Rawalpindi), each Man-of-the- Match will get $400, Man-of-the-Series $800, highest wicket-taker, fastest century and maximum boundaries $350 each, quickest half century $150 and best fielder of the series $200.

Aziz Khan, the PSO official, said his establishment was proud to get involved in cricket sponsorship, admitting that previously his company had been sponsoring golf and squash.
