Canterbury 1st XI men's selectors named
Canterbury Cricket Association - 6 September 2001

Canterbury Cricket today announced the selection panel for the Canterbury 1st XI Men's Team. The panel is as follows:

Craig Thiele (Convenor)
Michael Sharpe (Selector)
Graeme Kench (Selector)

Thiele takes over the role of convenor from Ben Harris who is unavailable this season. Thiele, a former fast bowler, represented Canterbury from 1980 to 1986 playing in 24 matches and capturing a total of 39 wickets at a respectable 17.62. He has been a member of the panel for the past two seasons and is excited about the new role.

Thiele commented "While it is disappointing that Ben is unavailable I feel it is important to continue with the progress we have made recently with the new breed of younger players who have already been exposed to first-class and limited overs cricket. I look forward to working with the other members of the panel in ensuring we make the very best of our talents here in Canterbury."

Graeme Kench, the newcomer to the panel, is also enthusiastic about the challenges of his new role. Kench has a strong playing background with the Lancaster Park and Heathcote Clubs and represented Canterbury in 1982/83. While new to selection he has indicated a willingness to get involved and has offered to assist the team in whatever capacity is required.

The recently appointed 1st XI Coach, Michael Sharpe, is the third member of the selection panel Sharpe has previously been involved in 1st XI team selection through his role as the 'A' Team coach.
